Thermodynamic And Heat Engine
Cycle
Cycle : A series of operations, which takes place in a certain order
and restore the initial conditions at the end, is known as thermodynamic cycle.
Q: What is Carnot engine?
A: It was being designed by Carnot and let me tell you that Carnot engine is an imaginary engine which follows the Carnot cycle and provides 100% efficiency.
1-2: Isothermal
expansion process
2-3: Reversible adiabatic expansion process or
Isentropic expansion process
3-4: Isothermal
compression process
4-1: Reversible adiabatic compression process or Isentropic compression process
The sufficiency of Carnot cycle may be increased by
1.
Increasing the highest temperature,
2.
Decreasing the lowest temperature. (most
effective process)
The Carnot cycle cannot be realized in actual
practice due to
1. Very high pressure developed in the cylinder.
2. High volume ratios in the cylinder.
